SciOx Scientific Research Magazine Constitution Oxford College Of Emory University

Mission

  • The purpose of Science Oxford (SciOx) Scientific Research Magazine is to provide an opportunity for the students at Oxford College of Emory University to publish scientific research that they are passionate about in the form of scientific news articles or papers.
  • SciOx aims to share scientific passion and knowledge to the greater Oxford community about the scientific process and academic writing by enabling students to compose their own independent research that may range from primary, experimental inquiry to secondary, systematic reviews.
  • SciOx aims to enrich the community by showcasing undergraduate research to the rest of the Oxford College population. In reading issues, the journal may augment the overall scientific knowledge of the community.

Membership

  • Membership in the SciOx Scientific Research Journal is limited to full-time students and faculty members of Oxford College of Emory University.
  • Students of Oxford College may join SciOx regardless of race, nationality, sexual orientation, religion, and other bases of discrimination. CLUB NAME shall not discriminate against members on any basis.
  • To become a member of SciOx one must show genuine interest in scientific inquiry and writing.
  • To stay an active member, members must:
    • Attend all scheduled meetings with an exception of 2 absences per semester.

The Executive Board 

  • Designation of Officers: The Executive Board of the SciOx will act as a sort of Parliament where everyone has an equal say.
  • Executive Board Selection Process: All Executive Board members shall be selected through an application process at the end of the academic school year. Executive Board members will be chosen through a majority vote of the current Executive Board members.
  • Tenure: Tenure for members of the Executive Board shall be for one calendar year. The Executive Board shall assume their responsibilities on the last day of the academic semester in which they are elected. Current Executive Board members shall mentor incoming Executive Board members after they are elected.
  • Succession Procedure: The order of succession will be Editor-In-Chief, Managing Editor, Secretary, Treasurer, and Website Chair. If a member of the Executive Board resigns for any reason, the next Board member in line shall fill the open position.
  • Vacancies: Vacancies in the Executive Board created during the school year due to graduation, withdrawal, or other actions shall be filled through a unanimous decision of current Executive Board members.

Amendment of the Constitution

  • The constitution is binding to all members of SciOx, but is not binding unto itself.
  • Any member of SciOx may propose an amendment to club policies that can be voted on by members of the Executive Board.
  • The constitution will be amended by the majority vote of the Executive Board.
  • Proposed amendments will become effective following a majority vote from the Executive Board.

Meetings

  • Meetings for the Executive Board will be held at least once a week unless seen as futile. Editor-in-Chief may schedule further meetings if seen as necessary.
  • The staff writers will be meeting every month or more so that everyone’s process can be monitored and club updates can be delivered.  
  • To make changes in the amendment or elections, quorum requires for all of the Executive Board and although not mandatory the staff writers to attend and vote, if interested, for the Editorial Board elections.
  • Editor-in-Chief will finalize time and date of meetings at the  beginning of each academic year after coming to consensus with the rest of the Executive Board
  • Secretary will be in charge of making sure to book zoom calls or rooms for meetings and notifying the members of the time/location of each meeting.
